2020 is finally here and for most people, that means out with the old, in with the new! Many make resolutions (new diet, stop a bad habit, etc.) but they hardly ever keep them because, honestly, it’s hard lol! Not to fret though: if you approach these 5 areas in your life a little bit differently, these are the resolutions that anyone can keep!

Health
  • Diversify your diet! Most of us have heard of doing a “meatless Monday,” which is great for your body and the environment, but there are other ways to incorporate different meals into your weekly schedule. You can do Thai Thursdays, Taco Tuesday, Wild card Wednesday, Fruit Friday. Choose a theme, a region, a color, food group, and try cooking something within those parameters. It’ll get you out of a recipe routine, stretch your creativity in the kitchen, plus improve your diet and cooking skills.

Fitness

  • If you’re trying to get in better shape and have any doubts that you’ll keep using that gym membership after March, set a more manageable goal. Although nothing beats the endorphins of a tough workout at the gym, a 30-minute walk in the park or around the block comes close. In addition to improving your fitness, it’s a great way to unwind, clear your head, and get moving. The hardest part about staying in shape is maintaining a routine, so incorporating a scheduled stroll into your day may make it easier to hit the gym once your committed to a more strenuous workout.

Streamline Your Wardrobe

  • Planning your outfits for the next two or three days in advance is a major time saver and stress alleviator. It takes far less time to plan what you’re going to wear the night before than doing it in the morning while waiting for your coffee to kick in.

Tech Habits

  • Avoid staring, checking, or browsing on your phone for the first hour of the day. Most of us have terrible tech habits that have real physical and mental health consequences. Looking at your phone or any screen shortly after waking puts your brain in a hyper-aroused and overstimulated state, which can leave you feeling worn out or drained earlier in the day than you otherwise would.

Relaxation

  • There’s so much stimulation, work, activity around us all of the time, and we often forget that our minds need more downtime than just sleep. Pencil in some quiet time for yourself. Let yourself simply be for even half an hour, and you’ll be more equipped to deal with daily stressors and frustrations.
